Silke Paulmann

Prof. Silke Paulmann has researched how we communicate emotions, attitudes, and motivations through tone of voice for more than 15 years. She studied at the Universities of Paderborn (Germany) and Groningen (The Netherlands) and worked at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig (Germany) as well as at the School for Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). She is now a Professor in the Psychology Department and the Centre for Brain Science at the University of Essex (Colchester, UK). Silke is interested in understanding how affective communication works, how it is anchored in the brain, and how it affects well-being and performance. She uses a wide range of methodologies to study these questions, including behavioural methodologies, eye-tracking, transcranial direct stimulation (tDCS), electro-encephalography (EEG) as well as acoustic measurements.
